Why You Shouldn’t Repair Your Own Guttering System by Todd Jordan
Your guttering is one of the most important parts of your home, and often the one that is most commonly overlooked until it is too late and the damage has been done. Your guttering protects you home from water damage over time and during heavy rainfall by directing unwanted water to the correct areas.
Your guttering must be properly installed and maintained as otherwise overtime it can become weak and can fall apart from wear and tear. It can also be a trap for debris, particularly leaves and twigs from overhanging trees, none of which do your guttering any good as they prevent the flow of water, which can result in flooding, and can become a fire hazard in hotter weather. Your guttering therefore has to be in tip top shape no matter what time of the year.
Even though you now understand gutter maintenance is important, you must make the time to do it. In general, cleaning out and maintaining your guttering can take a whole day if not a whole weekend and it is best done in good weather. The process itself is quite simple; the time is taken up in making sure you are thorough. All you need to do is take out the debris, clean out the gutters, check for leaks, and patch these leaks up.
You might want to consider hiring a professional if you have more than a single storey house, or if your gutter has not been cleaned out in a while.
